Early Intervention Cycling And Road Safety Program
About our “Early Intervention Cycling and Road Safety” program
Cyclabilities Early Intervention Cycling and Road Safety program is created by a transdisciplinary team of teachers, exercise physiologists and occupational therapists. The program is individualised and works to meet the goals and aspirations of each participant. Specific individual goals will be determined during the first session and will vary from individual to individual (e.g one child’s goal may be to ride a balance bike, whereas another child’s goal may be to ride without training wheels).
Over the course of ten weeks the participant will be supported with an individualised cycling program developing the participant’s confidence, balance and coordination leading towards riding a bicycle independently and safely.
The road safety component of the program looks to develop road safety skilling in regards to understanding what a road is, how to cross a road safely and understanding of basic road rules.
A key component of the program is supporting children’s communication, emotional regulation, listening and concentration skills. These skills will be supported and scaffolded throughout each lesson.
The program is run by educators and key health professionals (teachers and occupational therapists). It is strongly based on motor learning/play based theory.
